About the Tutor My name is Tony Fenik. I graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 2000. Now I am attending the University of South Carolina (USC). As a freshman, I started with Information Technology (IT) as my major. My sophomore year I started to take a few higher level math courses. I have really enjoyed them and I have realized that math might be more suitable for me than IT. Therefore, I switched my major to Math. Now I am junior and I am fully focused on my Math major. My overall GPA, after almost three years at USC, is 3.5. After getting my math BA degree, I want to go to graduate school, majoring in Math. After graduate school I will decide whether I want to strive my PhD, or enter the real world. I will be happy with either one. Other than school, I have two jobs. I am a residential advisor (RA), and I work for distance education department (DEIS). As an RA I have several important responsibilities. I have to make sure that there are no roommate conflicts in my dormitory. I have to report to my supervisors on daily basis. I have to interact with students, especially with those that live on my floor. I have to take care of my floor, plan activities with residents. I have to help interview new perspective RAs. There are many other tasks... Communication, time management, being a role model, interpersonal skills, and diversity are important skills in this job. In DEIS we provide classrooms just for testing. Student that are enrolled in Distance Education program at USC, just come in 2 or 3 times per semester and they can take their tests. Lately with improvement of the technology, DEIS is moving more towards internet and WWW. With internet and WWW it is much easier for us to post any news for student or even put professor's lectures online. And for students it is much easier to look on internet for their class assignments and readings, rather than travel to Columbia to get the actual paperwork. We have students from all over the world taking classes through this program. We also serve students almost as a bookstore. In DEIS, we only provide books to students who are enrolled in Distance Education classes. I enjoy both of these jobs. It is a good experience for me. Unfortunately, neither one of these jobs is related to my major. There is not many jobs for students majoring in math that are math related. This is why I became a math tutor. I want to move around math, even while I am still undergraduate. |
